Liz Callaghan appointed CEO of Palliative Care Australia
Palliative Care Australia (PCA) has announced the appointment of Liz Callaghan as the organisation’s new chief executive officer.
Ms Callaghan is currently director, strategic policy for Catholic Health Australia. She has previously held roles in the South Australian and Victorian Departments of Health, Metropolitan Domiciliary Care, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and the Department of Management at RMIT University Melbourne.
Professor Patsy Yates, president of Palliative Care Australia, said Ms Callaghan had significant policy, leadership and management experience in the not‐for‐profit and government sectors and her skills and experience would be of great benefit to PCA.
Ms Callaghan has qualifications in nursing, holds a Bachelor of Social Work, a Graduate Diploma in Human Services Research, Monitoring and Evaluation and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management.
She has edited and contributed to two books: Determining the Future: A Fair Go and Health for All and Exploring the Connections: Catholic Social Teaching and the Social Determinants of Health.

Valerie Lyons takes up ED role at Uniting AgeWell
Uniting AgeWell has appointed Valerie Lyons as its new executive director.
Ms Lyons is currently the CEO of Villa Maria, and was previously CEO of Southern Cross Care (Vic).
Uniting AgeWell said that Ms Lyons had demonstrated strong leadership and strategy development skills and she brings experience and expertise in the modelling and delivery of consumer directed care. Ms Lyons is the immediate past chairperson of LASA Victoria, and a member of the national LASA board and the HESTA board.
Ms Lyons takes up the role with Uniting AgeWell in January 2015.
As Australian Ageing Agenda reported last week, current Catholic Homes CEO Greg Pullen has been appointed CEO of the upcoming merged entity Villa Maria Catholic Homes.
