Seniors ambassadors announced; Fiona Smith appointed to LHA board; and new public affairs director at HammondCare.
New seniors ambassadors
The head of the Australian Seniors Computer Club Association (ASCCA), Nan Bosler is one of 11 individuals the NSW Government has announced are this year’s Seniors Week Ambassadors.
Ms Bosler, who has attained five tertiary qualifications since the age of 50, is president of the ASCCA, which aims to help older people make the most of modern technology.
NSW Minister for Ageing and Disability Services John Ajaka on Monday said the 11 ambassadors had extraordinary stories and were an inspiration to seniors across the state.
Among the ambassadors were John Dowse, who became the oldest person to qualify as a personal trainer in NSW and now runs circuit classes for over 55s, and Peter Ford, a bionic developer who invented NeuroSwitch, a device which helps people with profound disabilities to communicate.
Fiona Smith appointed to LHA board
Livable Housing Australia (LHA) has announced that Fiona Smith, a public interest lawyer with a commitment to social equity has been appointed to LHA’s board of directors.
MS Smith has previously chaired Victoria’s Business Licensing Authority and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
LHA’s chair, Peter Verwer, said Ms Smith’s reputation, understanding of governance issues and experience in the disability sector would add further depth to the LHA board.
Ms Smith is a member of the Victorian Government’s National Disability Insurance Scheme Implementation Task Force, and is a non-executive director of Yooralla – one of Victoria’s largest disability service providers
New public affairs director at HammondCare
Leigh Hatcher, a well-known television and radio journalist and presenter, has been appointed the new director of public affairs at HammondCare.
Mr Hatcher said that HammondCare was well positioned to play a central role in the continued development of integrated and respectful care and support for older people and their families.
For 40 years, Mr Hatcher has been a familiar presence on Australian radio and television. For the past 13 years he featured at Sky News as a presenter of its morning and afternoon programs.
