Latest sector appointments

Nick Ryan has been announced as chief executive of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency.

Mr Ryan was previously CEO of Leading Age Services Queensland, and was a senior executive with the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Queensland.

Making the announcement yesterday, Assistant Minister for Social Services Mitch Fifield said: “As CEO, Mr Ryan will be responsible for making independent accreditation and quality decisions, as set out in the legislation. I congratulate him on his appointment to the Agency as it implements its new responsibilities.”

Since 1 January the Quality Agency has been accrediting residential aged care, having replaced the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency. From 1 July 2014, it will also monitor the quality of community aged care.

Doug Strain steps down

After nearly 11 years in the role, Doug Strain has announced he is stepping down as CEO of Masonic Homes Limited (MHL).

Mr Strain said he was proud of what MHL had achieved during his term as CEO. “I can leave knowing that the organisation is in good shape and well able to continue to support the accommodation needs of current and future Senior South Australians and Northern Territorians.”

Mr Strain said he had been contemplating the decision for some time and he intended to focus on some “private business interests and personal investment options, along with engaging in some consultancy work.”

Richard Porter, the current deputy CEO,  has assumed the role of acting chief executive whilst the MHL board begins the process of selecting a new CEO.
