National Seniors CEO steps down
Professor John McCallum steps down from advocacy organisation after six years.
National Seniors Australia chief executive officer Professor John McCallum has left the advocacy organisation after more than four years as CEO.
Professor McCallum joined National Seniors as its research director in 2016 before being appointed as CEO in 2018.
During his time with National Seniors, Professor McCallum led the not-for-profit body through an internal organisational change, the aged care royal commission and a global pandemic.
His last day at National Seniors was on Friday 13 January 2023.
Professor McCallum continues to sit on the 14-member Council of Elders, which advises the government on matters of aged care reform. He is also managing director of Longer Life Consultants, a Canberra based company he set up in January, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Grice promoted to COO
Elsewhere former National Seniors general manager Chris Grice has been appointed the peak’s chief operating officer.
Mr Grice has been with National Seniors for 10 years, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation.
Mr Grice has also been instrumental in supporting the National Seniors’ policy team, most notably with the Let Pensioners Work campaign, which aims to meet critical labour shortages in areas such as aged care by letting older Australians work without losing their pension.
“One of the great pleasures of working with the team at National Seniors … is being able to promote the positive contribution that older Australians make towards the broader community,” said Mr Grice.
He added: “The contribution and general value to society that older Australians make both caring or volunteering – the physical, emotional, and economic contribution that older Australians make in this space is immense and should not go unnoticed by government, industry, and the broader community.”
