Senior appointments at digital health agency

The Australian Digital Health Agency has announced the appointments of Associate Professor Meredith Makeham to the role of chief medical adviser and Dr Steve Hambleton as senior responsible owner for a number of clinical priority programs.

Associate Professor Makeham will lead the development of initiatives to ensure that digital health services are designed, built and evaluated in partnership with the research community.

She will provide advice in her areas of expertise including patient safety, clinical governance, risk management, and digital health and safety research.

Dr Hambleton, a former president of the Australian Medical Association, will provide program oversight and leadership so that the patient and professional benefit is assured and delivered.

Baker & McKenzie appoints new healthcare head

Baker & McKenzie has appointed Ben McLaughlin as the global chair of the firm’s healthcare group.

Mr McLaughlin has experience advising leading healthcare companies on mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets.

With an interest in health technology, Mr McLaughlin invented the Baker & McKenzie Healthcare MapApp, which enables clients to access over 4,000 pages of legal summaries.

He will lead a global team of more than 500 lawyers including molecular biology, biotechnology, pharmacology, nursing and bioethics experts.

Tunstall Australia MD re-elected to MTAA board

Tunstall Australasia’s managing director Lyn Davies has been re-elected to the board of the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA).

Ms Davies will return to the board for her fourth year, serving alongside other leaders in the medical technology field including directors from Johnson & Johnson, Device Technologies Australia and Boston Scientific.

MTAA is a national association that represents companies in the medical technology industry. The organisation works alongside members, governments and stakeholders to promote innovation and provide better health outcomes for the community.
