Arcare appoints chair of clinical governance committee

Aged care provider Arcare has elected Dr Olivia Gobbo, consultant geriatrician, as the chairperson of its newly created clinical governance committee.

Dr Gobbo currently holds clinical appointments at Monash Health, Alfred Health and Bendigo Health, where she provides dementia services to the Mildura area via telehealth.

Her role will involve chairing the clinical governance committee for the residential and home care services provided by Arcare. The provider said Dr Gobbo was “committed to improving the dialogue between industry professionals and residence staff to lead to improvements in quality of care and client safety of Arcare residents and clients.”

“With a keen interest in the areas of cognitive assessment and dementia, comprehensive geriatric assessment and falls prevention, Dr Gobbo is committed to improving the care of older people in residential aged care,” said Arcare.

Nicola Burton appointed L&D manager at ACC

The Aged Care Channel has announced the appointment of Nicola Burton as its learning and development manager.

Ms Burton was most recently the senior nurse educator and learning and development manager for Peninsula Village, NSW, where she managed the department which was responsible for planning, designing, implementing and evaluating organisational-wide education for over 300 staff.

Russell Bricknell, Group CEO of ACC, said Ms Burton had a proven track record of driving progress in the way people learned. “She has a strong sense of our guiding principles – engaging with staff, informing them of better care practices and inspiring them to positively change care practice and behaviour,” he said.

Ms Burton said: “I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years with a strong clinical focus in acute care and more recently in the aged care sector…  I believe the key is through the empowerment of your staff and by providing education and support that inspires a culture of learning.”

Archdeacon Braden Short appointed to Amana board

Major WA aged care provider Amana Living has announced the appointment of Anglican Archdeacon Venerable Braden Short to the organisation’s board.

Braden Short is Archdeacon, administrator and Diocesan Registrar in the Anglican Diocese of Perth. As well as holding various positions within the Anglican Church, he has also been head of department, Chaplain and then acting principal at All Saints’ College in Bull Creek.

He is a Justice of the Peace, trained mediator and experienced counsellor/therapist, holding a Masters degree in social science and degrees in education and divinity.

“I was honoured to be invited to join the Amana Living Board,” he said. “This is a highly skilled group, who combine serious business acumen with a passion for high quality service provision. It is a delight to work with creative professionals as they reach out in loving service, through life-giving systems and structures.”
