Alzheimer’s Australia appoints Maree McCabe as CEO
Alzheimer’s Australia has appointed Maree McCabe as its national chief executive officer to lead the federated organisation’s transition to a national operating model.
Ms McCabe has been interim national CEO for the past six months and CEO of Alzheimer’s Australia Vic since September 2010.
She previously worked in senior roles in mental health and aged care, including at TLC Aged Care, The Melbourne Clinic, St John of God Healthcare and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.
Ms McCabe said she was honoured and humbled to be appointed and was excited about the future for the organisation.
“I am looking forward to working with the board and my colleagues, consumers and other partners across the county to deliver programs, services and advocacy that improve the quality of life for all people impacted by dementia,” Ms McCabe said.
Ms McCabe’s appointment is effective immediate while the unification of Alzheimer’s Australia is due to be in place from 1 July 2017.
SwanCare announces new chair
Western Australian aged care and retirement living provider SwanCare has announced the appointment of Etta Palumbo as chair.
Ms Palumbo, who has served on the SwanCare board since 2013, is director of business development and marketing at the Public Trustee, where she has created the State’s WA Will Bank, WA Will Week and Give2Good Foundation.
She is also chair of the Australian Sport Tourism Development Association.
A psychologist with a background in executive management and business development, Ms Palumbo said she had a keen interest in affordable housing, health and supporting ageing and vulnerable Western Australians.
“SwanCare has a reputation for excellence in the aged and community care sector, and it’s both an exciting opportunity and humbling to be able to contribute to the future growth and direction of the organisation in a period where our population is ageing and aged and community services are increasing in demand,” she said.
National Seniors appoints a new chief advocate
National Seniors Australia has appointed media professional Ian Henschke as its chief advocate to transform engagement with seniors.
Mr Henschke is a former ABC radio and TV journalist and presenter, who also served as a director on the broadcaster’s board.
National Seniors’ CEO Dagmar Parsons said the role of the chief advocate was to transform engagement with the over 50s, raise the profile of older people in the political debate and strengthen the collective voice of members.
Mr Henschke said high on the list of his priorities was an increasing focus on collaboration with other groups, improving mature age employment outcomes and making housing more affordable.
“We need to move beyond the divisive generational arguments and develop solutions that will last beyond the next election.”
