Not-for-profit aged care provider Warrigal has announced Wyn Janssen will be stepping down as chair of the board after 28 years and that non-executive director Sophie Ray will be named as his successor after its 2025 annual general meeting on 27 October.

Mr Janssen said his time as chair has been the greatest privilege of his career.

“Warrigal has grown substantially over these years, but what has always stood out to me are the people, the staff, volunteers, directors, and company members who live out our vision of creating a world where older people feel known, loved and connected. I leave with confidence that Warrigal is in capable hands and will continue to thrive into the future,” he said.

Ms Ray is currently independent chair of medical supply store Peak Care Equipment and chair of Shoalhaven Education Fund. She is also a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia.

Her previous roles have also included chair of RSL NSW, National Association of Women in Operations, Rosa Coordinated Care for Women, directorships with GO2 People and Settlement Services International and she spent 15 years as a commercial and regulatory lawyer at PricewaterhouseCoopers in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

Ms Ray wrote on LinkedIn that she is “honoured and delighted” to have been chosen as the next chair, and that she is grateful to be trusted to continue the work of the previous chairs.

“I look forward to working with the board and executive team (led by Jenni Hutchins), our staff, volunteers, residents and their families to ensure that Warrigal always provides a place where our older people are known, loved and connected,” she wrote.

Mr Jannsen said he is delighted that Ms Ray will succeed him.

“Sophie brings a wealth of experience, insight and compassion. Her career has been defined by purpose and impact, which aligns closely with Warrigal’s values. I know she will guide Warrigal with both wisdom and innovation in the years ahead,” he added.
