Australian reports “stoush” between minister and aged care sector
Aged and Community Services Australia CEO, Greg Mundy, is reported to have disputed the integrity of the data released from a government report into aged care standards.
Media reports of a tripling in the number of complaints about nursing home care standards, prompted the ministerial announcement that the industry watchdog, Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency, would boost its number of nursing home visits by 3000 to a record 7000 next financial year.
The Australian newspaper has reported that Aged and Community Services Australia chief executive officer Greg Mundy disputed the quality of the data. “What didn’t get reported was that of the nearly 4000 complaints registered only a very small number required action.” he wrote.
Ms Elliot has acknowledged the dispute in a media release and defended her response to the report, but the minister also tried to calm the matter down by saying the overwhelming majority of aged care providers provided top quality care.
