Bridgewater closes

ACCV has moved to reassure residents that its members are ready to help with the necessary re-locations.

The Bridgewater Aged Care Facility has closed after Government-appointed administrators were unable to achieve a sale by yesterday’s deadline.

The closure comes despite many efforts to find a purchaser, since Melbourne facility went into administration in May this year.

“It is a disappointing outcome for everyone involved,” said administrator Stephen Longley, from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“We were working to achieve the sale by close of business yesterday but were unable to demonstrate that there was sufficient funding to continue to operate for another month, which was the realistic timeframe needed to complete the proposed sale.”

“To come up short at this point is frustrating but to sell the nursing home required the agreement of 45 separate parties under a strata title arrangement.

“The complexity of these negotiations meant the deal could not be struck before the deadline.”

Over 80 Bridgewater residents at the home will now have to be re-located.

Aged and Community Care Victoria has assured residents and their families that its members will work cooperatively with the department to ensure this process is as smooth as possible.

“Our industry expresses our regret to residents, their families and staff that a relocation of residents has now been announced,” said CEO, Gerard Mansour. “I understand this will be a difficult time for all concerned.”

“I have called on our members in nearby locations to actively assist any relocation and have been greatly pleased by the positive expressions of support I have already been given.”
