Bupa Care Services has posted a message of support to its staff on YouTube in response to allegations about the state of care at its Maroubra facility. (Video below)

The video entitled, ‘What the papers didn’t tell you’, was published online after an article The Sunday Telegraph claimed that staff culture at the facility was “despicable”.

However the video depicts a standard of care that is in stark contrast to the article, with staff and residents openly stating their support for the facility and its culture of care.

A member of staff interviewed for the video mentioned that an inspection by the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency conducted shortly after the allegations were made, found that the facility met all 44 expected outcomes.

A spokesperson for Bupa Care Services said the main intention of the video was to acknowledge the great work performed by its staff.

“The video was our way of showing support for our team and to acknowledge their continuing great efforts,” a spokesperson for Bupa Care Services said.

“Throughout the time of the media coverage and the reviews that followed we always remained confident in our team and staff culture at Maroubra. We felt that they were unfairly represented and this was our way of showing them our support.”

The spokesperson said that although the situation was “unfortunate”, the organisation is now looking forward to “delivering some great care as we’ve always done.”

“It’s about keeping the spirits high.”

The video, which was distributed to other Bupa facilities and key stakeholders, has been viewed more than 500 times on YouTube since it was first published two weeks ago.

Bupa Care Services said it had received many messages of encouragement from individuals and organisations throughout the sector.

“You can’t always believe what you read in the papers, and certainly we have been encouraged by the level of support received by the industry and our customers as well,” the spokesperson said.
