Not-for-profit Australian Capital Territory aged care and retirement living provider Goodwin has acquired The Glen, a residential aged care facility located in the New South Wales coastal town of Batemans Bay.

The purchase – from Fresh Hope Communities, also an NFP – further increases Goodwin’s footprint in the area; the provider acquired retirement living village The Manor and began operating home services in Batemans Bay in 2021.

“It has been a long-term goal of the Canberra-based organisation to extend its services to the NSW south coast,” said Goodwin CEO Stephen Holmes.

A modern, state-of-the-art facility, The Glen comprises of 92 residences suited to all levels of care, said Mr Holmes. “From fully-independent retirement living, to low-, medium-, and high-care needs, we can now provide seniors with the full range of services they need, where and when they need it.”

Goodwin began operating its new site in the suburb of Catalina on 1 February. Workers at the facility have remained at The Glen and Goodwin has worked hard to minimise disruption for both staff and residents during the transition, said Mr Holmes.

“Goodwin looks forward to working with staff and residents at The Glen and is excited to continue and to build upon the strong quality of care that Fresh Hope Communities has established.”

Goodwin will bring its full suite of clinical services to the site – including its in-house pharmacist model. The provider was the first in the country to embed a full-time pharmacist across its sites in 2018.

Following Goodwin’s lead, from 1 January 2023, every government-funded residential aged care facility has been able to employ or engage an on-site pharmacist or community pharmacy services.

Commenting on the sale of The Glen, Fresh Hope Communities CEO Daniel Dwyer said the acquisition is beneficial for all involved. “The sale is a great outcome for residents, families, staff and the broader community, with another high-quality non-profit organisation continuing to operate the service, providing continuity for residents and employees.”
