Despite being one of the largest not-for-profit providers in Western Australia Amana Living has announced the transfer of its Kalgoorlie operations to fellow not-for-profit provider Respect –pointing to workforce shortages, increasing infrastructure costs and the complexities of managing the regional facilities from Perth as factors hindering sustainable operations.

The transfer is due to be completed on 1 May subject to regulatory approvals.

Operations included in the transfer are the Edward Collick Home, Muschamp Village and Amana Living’s home care services.

Since starting out in Tasmania, Respect has a long history of delivering care exclusively in rural and regional Australia along with acquiring services in need of a new home, such as two Royal Freemasons homes in Victoria’s Gippsland region last year.

Amana Living chief executive officer Stephanie Buckland said the decision was made in the best interests of residents, clients, families, and staff.

“Our priority has always been to provide the highest quality of care to the people we serve. We are confident that Respect will sustain and enhance aged care services in the Goldfields. Importantly, this transition ensures continuity of care, job security for our staff, and a seamless experience for residents, clients and families,” Ms Buckland said.

Respect chief executive officer and managing director Jason Binder welcomed the opportunity to build on Amana Living’s legacy and further strengthen aged care services in the Goldfields.

“Respect is committed to delivering exceptional care for older people living in rural and regional Australia and ensuring aged care services continue to be sustainable and available for local families in need,” he said.

“With our proud, local focus and approach to building strong community connections, we feel privileged to have been given an opportunity to care for the older people of Kalgoorlie and the surrounding region.”

Both providers have assured residents, clients and families that care and services will remain consistent and that residential and retirement living contracts remain unchanged.

The two providers also noted that all Amana Living employees will be offered employment with Respect on the same terms and conditions.

There will be a dedicated transition team based in Kalgoorlie to support residents, clients, families, and staff throughout the process.
