The Future Social Service Institute in Victoria is hosting an event next month for service providers on the processes and pitfalls of mergers and acquisitions in the not-for-profit sector.

The free event will hear from Nava Subramaniam, a Professor of Accounting and Director of Governance, Accountability and Law Research at RMIT University, who will discuss her research and experience in this area.

The seminar will look at past examples of mergers and acquisitions, how the process can be managed and the risks and opportunities of merging with or acquiring another organisation.

The event comes at a time of further consolidation within the community and social services sector in an environment of increased competition.

The Future Social Service Institute is a collaboration between the Victorian state government, state peak organisation Victorian Council of Social Service and RMIT University.

The event takes place on 11am-12:30pm on 26 July in Melbourne.
