Odyssey adds GP office to aged care community

Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities has partnered with Harvest Medical to bring primary healthcare services to residents.

Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities has partnered with Harvest Medical to bring primary healthcare services directly to the Gold Coast residents’ doorsteps.

The on-site premise at Odyssey Robina’s Ipanema building includes a roster of two attending doctors, six physiotherapists and one occupational therapist.

Having a fully operational general practitioner office onsite marks a significant milestone in the delivery of holistic aged care services, said Odyssey founder and chief executive officer Phil Usher.

“By incorporating a doctor’s office directly within our community, we are providing an unprecedented level of convenience and personalised care to those living at Odyssey,” he said.

“Our residents can now receive prompt medical attention without the need for external appointments or transportation, allowing them to enjoy a higher quality of life while ensuring their health and wellbeing remain top property.”

Harvest Medical owner Shanan Procter said the ground-breaking venture streamlined medical care and helped foster a stronger doctor-and-patient relationship.

“By being present within the community, our team at Harvest Medical can truly understand the individual needs of each resident, develop personalised care plans and provide proactive solutions that promote their health and wellbeing.”

The Odyssey model is built around a resort-style environment where couples can stay together, pets are welcome and grandchildren can sleepover. It includes providing care to residents in their homes and onsite respite and dementia care.

Earlier this year, the provider opened a purpose-built, person-centred environment for people living with dementia opened at the Robina community.
