A new Odyssey Lifestyle Care Communities development has officially commenced following a sod-turning ceremony on 25 April.

The estimated $127-million project on Chevron Island on Queensland’s Gold Coast is expected to create around 350 construction jobs and more than 100 jobs once complete.

Built by construction firm Multiplex, the five-star aged care and retirement living facility will feature a restaurant, swimming pool, wine cellars and cinemas.

“Odyssey is built around a resort-style environment that’s a perfect hybrid of retirement and aged care, and this has really resonated with the wider community as well as setting an excellent precedent in the industry by demonstrating the power of putting people first,” said Odyssey founder and CEO Phil Usher.

Multiplex regional director Glenn Robinson is pleased to see construction begin. “We are thrilled to be running full steam ahead on what will become an innovative project for the Gold Coast and aged care industry,” said Mr Robinson.

The Chevron Island build will take into consideration feedback garnered from residents at Odyssey’s Robina site and feature one, two and three-bedroom apartments with penthouse options also available.

There will also be a space dedicated to individuals with cognitive impairments called Memory Lane.

“Since Robin opened in mid-2020, we’ve learnt a lot about seniors’ living preferences and have found many residents are keen for a variety of options when it comes to space,” said Mr Usher.

Odyssey Chevron Island is scheduled for completion in 2025.
