A community-owned RM Begg aged care facility is preparing to  merge with national provider Respect.

Residents and staff of the RM Begg Kyneton Aged Care facility – located in regional Victoria – have been informed of the board’s intention to merge with Respect, a not-for-profit organisation which runs aged care homes, retirement villages and home care services across Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.

The RM Begg board had been discussing the proposal to merge with an aged care provider who could steer the Kyneton facility forward in a sustainable way for 18 months, said board chair Phillip Irvine.

“Under Respect, we not only believe RM Begg will be better placed to meet the enormous challenges which continue to impact the industry, but also develop and thrive – ensuring our home is the aged care provider of choice for the Kyneton community.”

Jason Binder

Managing director and CEO of Respect Jason Binder – which in March acquired the Sir William Hudson Memorial Centre in regional NSW – said the RM Begg deal would ensure the home’s services and support for residents and their families could continue for generations to come.

“As a national organisation with a regional focus, we pride ourselves on our approach to community engagement – especially during the merger process,” said Mr Binder.

“We recognise the unique, longstanding role that RM Begg has played for the Kyneton community, including from a historical standpoint, and we’re delighted to be able to engage with the local community so that they too can play a vital roles in helping direct this really exciting step forward.”

Mr Binder added: “Across all of our mergers, we recognise we’re temporary custodians of our homes and always ensure the history, name, and all the work which has gone into these community assets is respected.”

RM Begg will become the 21st aged care home to join Respect.
