Resthaven on Quarry celebrates next chapter

The team at Resthaven on Quarry is celebrating becoming the latest member of the Apollo Care Alliance.

As one of the oldest family-run aged care communities in the Capricorn Coast region, Resthaven on Quarry will be able to continue providing services to its Mackay residents with the backing of the Apollo Care Alliance.

Resthaven on Quarry director and clinical and operations manager Mary Anne Edwards – who has owned the agedcare community with her mother Joan for decades – said the governance landscape in the aged care sector was more challenging than ever before, making it difficult for a stand-alone, privately owned provider to navigate.

“I’m delighted our community is now part of the Apollo Care Alliance. They understand the challenges of residential aged care in regional settings and their unique vision is to protect the legacy of each community and ensure they remain sustainable,” she said.

“It’s vital that independent aged care communities like Resthaven are supported with the expertise we need to meet the ever-increasing demand for aged care in Mackay.”

The two organisations celebrated with an event on 1 May featuring speeches, awards for long-serving staff and volunteers, cake cutting and morning tea for residents and their families, staff, volunteers, local councillors and members of the Apollo Care team – who will also be sharing their plans for Resthaven on Quarry’s sustainable future.

Ms Edwards said she felt confident in their decision to join the alliance after seeing the support Nanyima Aged Care in Mirani received when it joined in 2023 – including advancing Nanyima’s plan to build a 28-bed specialist memory support household.

Recognising Resthaven on Quarry staff as its biggest asset, Ms Edwards said they were looking forward to supporting staff and volunteers to continue providing excellent care and ensuring residents and families feel a sense of community. She also noted that staff will be soon able to access salary packaging as Resthaven on Quarry transitions into a not-for-profit.

“This is more than a business decision,” added Ms Edwards. “I’m confident Apollo Care will continue our family’s legacy and ensure Resthaven’s continued success in the next 50 years.”

Apollo Care transitions manager Michael O’Connor equally expressed delight at Resthaven on Quarry joining the now 13-strong aged care community alliance.

“Apollo Care brings a highly experienced team, industry-leading care governance, and an award-winning staff culture program, and will fund enhancements such as technology upgrades, and improvements to resident spaces, hospitality services and lifestyle resources. Together, these will make Resthaven on Quarry an even better place to live and work, today and into the future,” he said.
