HammondCare to build health and aged care campus

HammondCare plans to make over a 1960s palliative care hospital into a contemporary integrated health campus.

Independent aged care provider HammondCare plans to transform a 1960s palliative care hospital into a contemporary integrated health campus.

The Neringah Hospital in Wahroonga on the upper north shore of Sydney will be remodelled to continue providing palliative care as well as aged care and seniors living accommodation, and a wellbeing centre.

“This integrated health campus will offer best practice palliative care, in both inpatient and community settings, as well as offering aged care services based on HammondCare’s relationship-based model of care,” said general manager health and palliative care Dr Andrew Montague.

The proposed additions and changes include:

  • 12 additional residential aged care beds
  • palliative care inpatient beds and community palliative outpatient services in a Schedule 3 health services facility
  • seniors living dwellings
  • provision of more than 100 care parking spaces within basement level
  • associated amenities
  • site works, landscaping and public domain works.
Overall site plan

The project is comprised of a single building that will present as two buildings, no higher than five floors on the 12,000 sqm site at 4-12 Neringah Avenue South. A pedestrian thoroughfare – accessible to the community – will link the two buildings.

HammondCare intends to submit its Wahroonga Stage 2 proposal to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment later this year.

“We look forward to consulting with the community and other stakeholders as we progress our long-tern plan that will take a number of years to complete,” said Dr Montague. “HammondCare understands that Neringah Hospital is a much-loved community asset. This plan will enhance its services.”
