International Conference comes to Aus
COTA Victoria has made a successful bid to host a gathering of the world’s top ageing experts in 2010.
Melbourne will host one of the largest international gatherings of world ageing experts in 2010.
The 10th International Federation on Ageing (IFA) Global Conference on Ageing is coming to Australia, thanks to a successful bid from the Victorian Council on the Ageing.
The last IFA Conference was held in Copenhagen in 2006, attracting delegates from 117 countries.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for those interested and working in ageing to share an international perspective,” said the Council’s Executive Director, Sue Hendy.
The event will include a senior officials meeting for ministers and bureaucrats from around the world.
“It’s a great forum for real discussion about policy, research and program development and to move things along in those areas.”
The Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot congratulated COTA Victoria, and its national body COTA Over 50s, for bringing the conference to Australia.
“This conference will bring together government and non-government organisations, and people from around the globe to share ideas and best practices to improve support for older people,” Mrs Elliot said.
This year’s IFA conference will be held in September in Montreal, Canada.
The Canada conference’s focus is on ageing in place and it will consider the importance of designing environments that promote participation, health and security among the world’s older population.
This is the second time Australia will host the IFA Conference, which was held in Western Australia in 2002.
