More than 100 aged care leaders and experts are coming together in Melbourne on Tuesday for the CHSP Summit to drive policy recommendations for home support beyond 2027.

Hosted by provider peak body Ageing Australia, the invitation-only event involves CEOs and senior leaders from CHSP providers and peak bodies, academics, and consumer representatives.

It will focus on building the sector’s collective vision for home-based care under Support at Home, which commences on 1 November. CHSP – which currently supports over 800,000 older Australians to live independently – will not move into the program before mid-2027.

Insights from the full-day summit will inform a principles and recommendations paper for the government.

“This is a crucial opportunity for providers and experts alike to come together, shape priorities and ensure the reforms deliver sustainable care for older Australians,” said Ageing Australia chief executive officer Tom Symondson.

CHSP already helps to meet older Australians’ preferences to age at home, connected to their communities, for as long as possible.

“This summit is about putting it centre stage, celebrating its success and charting a course for a future where CHSP’s strengths turbo charge Support at Home,” he said.

Topics on the agenda include:

  • the importance of entry-level aged care
  • designing the future of CHSP
  • funding and resourcing
  • identifying future needs and priorities for entry-level in-home aged care
  • developing recommendations for a responsive, flexible, and sustainable, entry-level aged care in the community.

Mr Symondson will open the Summit and talk on CHSP’s role in supporting dignity, independence and connection. He said the summit was about more than designing a program.

“It’s about protecting the services older Australians rely on every day and making sure providers are ready to meet the needs of a rapidly ageing nation.”
