Aged care, disability and community service provider Jewish Care Victoria has appointed Dr Simon Grof as its inaugural chief medical officer.

Having joined the executive leadership team on 1 March, Dr Grof brings extensive medical experience to the role. He has been a consultant geriatrician at Melbourne’s Eastern Health since 2014 where he is clinical director of its coordinated care, aged medicine program. Dr Grof is also a clinical lecturer at Deakin University.

“This significant investment cements Jewish Care’s desire to be best in class in the provision of high-quality, innovative care, and support of our community,” said Jewish Care Victoria CEO Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly in a statement.

“Dr Grof will provide strong medical leadership at both the governance and operational level … within our residential aged care homes, active living centres, and in-home support services,” said Adjunct Professor Lilly. “His appointment comes at a pivotal time when the aged care sector faces numerous care challenges and opportunities in the wake of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety findings.”

Meanwhile, Dr Grof said he looked forward to strengthening Jewish Care’s aged care delivery program. “I am keenly motivated to improve the healthcare outcomes for elders which aligns with Jewish Care’s values, ethos, and philosophy of care and support,” he said.

Jewish Care Victoria opened a nine-storey building on St Kilda Road in May 2020. It includes seven households of up to 16 residents each and two dementia care houses.
