Levande appoints sustainability leader

Levande has appointed experienced professional Kaushik Sridhar as head of sustainability.

Recently established seniors living provider Levande is making good on its promise to focus on areas related to environmental, social and governance with the appointment of experienced professional and educator Kaushik Sridhar as head of sustainability.

When EQT Infrastructure launched Levande in August last year, chair David Gonski said it would be a purpose-led business with sustainability goals at the core of its value proposition. “From decarbonisation targets to ensuring all new developments adhere to best-in-class sustainability metrics, Levande will seek to become the clear industry leader on all areas of ESG,” he said at the time.

Dr Sridhar (pictured top) has over 16 years of experience developing and implementing environmental, social and governance – also known as ESG – programs, strategies, and initiatives to improve a business’ financial bottom line and reduce its environmental impacts.

Widely published in Australian and international peer-reviewed journals, he holds a PhD and MBA from Macquarie Business School, and has presented at conferences in Australia, Asia and Europe.

Dr Sridhar was most recently group manager of social responsibility and ESG reporting at Evolution Mining, where he spent two-and-a-half years leading and strengthening the organisation’s social responsibility functions including establishing its first ESG reporting strategy and framework.

Prior to that, he spent a couple of years at Regis Aged Care as head of sustainability where his projects included rolling out 3.6 megawatts of solar across 38 homes in less than 12 months and installing than 17,000 LED lights across facilities.

Dr Kaushik, who has held several non-executive director roles including at Bioregional Australia, Climate Alliance and Fair Trade Association of Australia, is currently a brand ambassador for Opportunity International and Better Futures Australia.

He is also an adjunct lecturer at Australian Institute of Business teaching corporate governance for the MBA program, and a former adjunct lecturer at Kaplan Business School, Monash University, University of Melbourne and RMIT University teaching MBA courses including leadership and corporate sustainability.

In this newly created role, Dr Sridhar said he would work closely with Levande’s executive and operations teams, the board, and EQT network to support the deployment and management of Levande’s ambition to be sustainability leaders.

Commencing with Levande on 17 April, his responsibilities include:

  • establish sustainability and ESG functions across the team and national operations
  • develop and implement sustainability strategies that will drive real and measurable improvements.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that come with my new role,” Dr Sridhar told Australian Ageing Agenda. “I feel privileged to move into a role that will help drive outcomes by properly investing into the wellbeing of our most valuable resource – our people.”
