New workforce survey in progress

A survey to help develop policy that addresses the aged care sector’s workforce challenges is now open to providers.

A survey to help develop policy that addresses the aged care sector’s workforce challenges is now open to providers.

Data collected from the Aged Care Provider Workforce Survey – previously the Aged Care Workforce Census – will also advise the Australian Government, and the sector, on the size and growth of the aged care workforce and staff attributes and skills.

“The data will inform workforce reforms to aged care providers and workers and relieve workforce pressures,” said a Department of Health and Aged Care spokesperson.

Half of the sector’s providers have been selected to complete the new workforce survey – and participation is mandatory.

Those providers selected represent the following services:

  • residential aged care
  • Home Care Packages Program
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program
  • Multi-Purpose Services
  • National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care.

The sample was designed to be nationally representative, taking into consideration service type, size and remoteness.

It’s hoped the biennial survey will provide a unique insight into the aged care workforce with data not systematically collected elsewhere.

Aged care providers not selected to take part can also volunteer to complete the survey by emailing acpws@srcentre.com.au.

All participating providers will receive an individualised report on their workforce profile.

Selected providers have received a link to the online survey, which must be completed by Friday 30 June.

A support line is open should providers require help completing the survey – free call 1800 800 996 (9.00am-8.30pm AEST weekdays), or email acpws@srcentre.com.au.

The survey data will be published early 2024.
