- Partnership for Aged Care Channel and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency

The Aged Care Channel (ACC) and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency have signed an agreement intended to improve the quality of care provided in the aged care sector in Australia. According to the Agency’s chief executive, Mark Brandon, the partnership will enable the agency to provide information and training to more people in the sector at a time that suits them and at a relatively low cost.
ACC’s Chief Executive Officer, Russell Bricknell, said the signing of the agreement was a key milestone for the Channel. “Our guiding principles include a shared commitment to improving the quality of care provided in the residential and community aged care sectors through the provision of high quality learning and development programs focusing on better practice.” “We look forward to working in partnership with the Accreditation Agency on projects that will improve the quality of life for residents,” Mr Bricknell said.
The Aged Care Channel was established in 2003 with the support of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) and the Health Television Network (HTN) to enable staff and residents of residential care homes across Australia to access accredited education and training programs. In 2012 with the support of a Community Care Advisory Committee and Home Care Founding Members, ACC will release the Home Care Channel pilot program. Home Care Founding Members are involved in the decision making process about program content, production scheduling and learning resource development.
- 29-30 November 2012 – ACS NSW/ACT Northern region conference
Aged and Community Services NSW & ACT is hosting its Northern Region Conference 2012 over two days this week – 29-30 November – at the Ballina RSL Club in Ballina. The theme of the conference is ‘People matter’ and topics will include: The living longer, living better aged care reforms; the proposed NSW Retirement Living Standard Contract; marketing and social media for the aged care sector; and the faces of leadership. - 4 December 2012 – Aged Care Policy Forum – Australian National University (ANU), Canberra
The ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) and Crawford School of Public Policy, both at ANU, are jointly presenting an Aged Care Policy Dialogue to canvass global developments in the area and their relevance to Australia. Two international experts – Dr Joshua Wiener, Program Director for Ageing, Disability and Long-Term Care, RTI International and Dr José-Luis Fernández, London School of Economics – will join a range of Australian politicians, policymakers, researchers and commentators to consider current and future challenges and opportunities for reform. Other speakers include Minister for Mental Health and Ageing and Minister for Social Inclusion, Mark Butler; deputy chairman of the Productivity Commission, Mike Woods; Professor Kaarin Anstey, director of the Centre for Research on Ageing, Health and Wellbeing at ANU and a chief investigator with CEPAR; Professor Hal Kendig, head of Ageing, Work and Health Research Unit at the University of Sydney and a chief investigator with CEPAR; chair of the Aged Care Reform Implementation Council and chancellor, University of Western Sydney, Professor Peter Shergold; First Assistant Secretary, Ageing and Aged Care Division, Department of Health and Ageing, Carolyn Smith; and others.

5 December 2012 – Telehealth Remote Monitoring in Community Care
Health Informatics Society Australia (HISA) SA is hosting an evening seminar on the topic of telehealth remote monitoring in community care and clinical practice support systems. Joanna Smith, a research manager at Silver Chain, will present on Silver Chain’s research to date exploring the use of telehealth technology. Livio Ciacciarelli, a senior nursing project officer at SA Health and will be speaking about Care Connect clinical practice support system (CPS): supporting assessment and care planning at the bedside system.
