Grass roots communities are encouraged to participate and present their successful programs. To ensure they do, at least 50 percent of the conference proceedings will be devoted to community groups. The conference will take place at the Pullman Cairns International in Cairns, Australia on 25th – 27th November 2013. The first call for papers closes January 30, 2013.See Indigenous health conference submissions for more information, or send us an email to admin@indigenoushealth.net.

Vitamins are medicines too

Complementary medicines are medicines too, warns NPS MedicineWise, following recently released research by Canstar Blue showing more than half of Australians who take multivitamins didn’t realise they were medicines. People often consider complementary medicines, such as herbal remedies and multivitamins, to be less powerful than prescription medicines, said NPS MedicineWise clinical adviser Dr Andrew Boyden. But complementary medicines can still cause side effects and may interact with other medicines and food, he said. Consumer can get information on prescription, over-the-counter and complementary medicines by calling the NPS Medicines Line on 1300 MEDICINE (1300 633 424), Monday to Friday 9am–5pm AEST. Call the Adverse Medicines Events (AME) line on 1300 134 237 to report suspected adverse events.
