$15 million for CALD projects
The government has called for submissions for the next round of the Community Partners Program.
The Commonwealth Government is providing $15 million in grants for projects that will help older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to access appropriate aged care services.
CALD community groups have been invited to tender for projects under the Community Partners Program.
The program is designed to assist older people from non-English speaking backgrounds and since 2005, it has been used to fund over 740 projects nationally.
Participating community groups have used the funding to create links with specialist groups like Alzheimer’s Australia and the Cancer Council.
They have also provided briefings about aged care services and conditions such as dementia to over 300 different community groups.
Other program initiatives include training, networking projects and translating brochures into different languages.
“This program is about helping people find the services that are available to them,” Mrs Elliot said.
The grants are open to organisations throughout Australia. Advertisements will appear in national, regional and CALD community newspapers on Saturday, 25 April.
The Department of Health and Ageing will lead an independent, competitive selection process to ensure applicants are given an equal opportunity to receive funding.
