AAT upholds revocation

Saitta’s appeal against the loss of its approved provider status has been dismissed.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) has upheld a Department of Health and Ageing decision to revoke the approved provider status of a Melbourne-based company.

The department imposed sanctions on Saitta Pty Ltd last August, after its Belvedere Park Nursing Home was found to be non-compliant with 42 of the 44 accreditation standards.

Saitta appealed to the AAT to have the sanctions overturned but the department successfully defended the original ruling, arguing that Saitta had failed to provide good quality care.

The Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot welcomed the tribunal’s decision to uphold the department’s decision.

“The tribunal’s decision is testament to the commitment of departmental staff and the need to put the care and safety of residents’ first,” Mrs Elliot said.

“I am pleased this sorry situation has come to an end.”

Belvedere Park closed on September 21, 2007 and all 25 former residents were re-located to other nursing homes.
