Aboriginal job guide

The NSW Government’s DADHC has launched a job guide for Aboriginal people wanting to work in home care.

The state government in NSW has launched a job guide for Aboriginal people who are thinking about launching a career in home care.

The resource was developed by the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) as part of an attempt to increase the number of Aboriginal employees in the home care sector.

The NSW Minister for Ageing and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Paul Lynch said the strategy would broaden the diversity of the home care work force.

“This not only reflects the people we serve, it provides new ideas and fresh perspectives on how we support home care clients,” he said.

The guide provides useful information on how to write a job application, what to expect at a job interview and how to seek feedback from potential employers.

It also features the stories of existing Aboriginal home care staff who share their experiences about working in the public sector.

The state’s Aboriginal Home Care program currently employs more than 350 people.

Under its Aboriginal employment plan, the department plans to reach a five per cent Aboriginal employment target by 2011.
