Capital grants exceed $44 million

The Minister for Ageing has announced details about the capital grants being provided as part of the 2008-09 ACAR.

Capital grants for residential aged care developments in the current Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR) will exceed $44 million.

According to a government statement, more than two thirds of the grants will be directed to providers building facilities outside the major capital cities.

“No Australian Government has [provided] more financial support to the aged care sector,” said the Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot.

“The capital grants for construction are important in the current economic climate.

“The Australian Government is aware that the economy and the aged care sector are not immune from the global financial crisis. That is why we are supporting aged care.”

Applications for capital grants are assessed independently by the Department of Health and Ageing and the final decisions are expected by mid year.

The applications for the 2008-2009 ACAR closed on December 19, 2008.
