HACC funding boost for TAS

The Commonwealth and Tasmanian Governments have announced an extra $4 million for the state’s Home and Community Care Program, bringing total program spending to $162 million over the next three years.

Close to $93 million will come from the Australian Government while the Tasmanian Government will provide close to $69 million.

The Commonwealth Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot said the new funding will help more people maintain their independence.

“People tell us they want to continue living independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities – the HACC program helps this happen,” said Mrs Elliot.

“Without it, many people would have to move prematurely into residential care.”

The Tasmanian Deputy Premier, Lara Giddings said the state government had targeted regions with higher needs.

“While priorities vary from region to region, common services to be funded include help at home, personal care and home modifications,” Ms Giddings said.

“We will continue to ensure that the right mix of HACC services are being offered in areas most needed – to best support Tasmanians,” she said.
