McLucas steps aside
The former Shadow Ageing Minister has decided to “give up” the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing.
Senator Jan McLucas stepped down from the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing in the government’s executive re-shuffle at the weekend.
Prime Minister told journalists in Brisbane that Senator McLucas had decided to give up her portfolio responsibilities.
“She does so in order to focus on her role as Senator for Queensland, given the particular challenges faced in regional, rural and provincial Queensland during the global recession,” Mr Rudd said.
“Senator McLucas has made a significant contribution through her role as Parliamentary Secretary and has provided valuable support to the Health Minister in a major area of policy reform and policy priority for the Government.”
The senator has held the parliamentary secretary position since the Rudd Government came to power in 2007.
Before that she was the opposition’s ageing spokesperson.
