More cash, more skills

The federal government has handed out another $19 million to train more than 4,000 aged care workers.

More than 4,000 aged care workers will benefit from around $19 million worth of federal government funding to improve the skills of sector employees.

Funds will be distributed throughout the county, with New South Wales being the biggest winner having received enough cash to create 1,403 training places.

The remaining training spots will be distributed accordingly-884 Queensland; 732 Victoria; 449 Western Australia; 374 South Australia; 110 Tasmania, 60 Australian Capital Territory and 32 Northern Territory.

This investment builds on the Rudd Government’s budget commitment to provide $310 million over four years for more than 31,000 aged care training places and scholarships.

Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot said the investment in training will create a more highly skilled workforce that will help deliver better care for older Australians.

“This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the skills of our aged care workforce and part of our efforts to help aged care service providers recruit, train and retain valuable staff,” Minister Elliot said.

“We believe in better planning for our aged care workforce and the government is investing to improve quality of care, build the aged care workforce of the future and provide financial incentives for aged care workers and nurses to undertake further study.”
