The overall feeling from home care providers ahead of the 1 November start of Support at Home is uncertainty, says Lorraine Poulos – managing director of LPA and speaker at this month’s Ageing Australia National Conference 2025.

This includes around how long referrals will take to come in from the assessment centres, the impact of the higher and uncapped contributions seniors will have to pay and claiming systems.

“We know that it’ll take a little while for the co-contribution in home care to take effect. We’re not sure that older Australians will want to pay,” Ms Poulos tells Australian Ageing Agenda on the sidelines of the three-day Gold Coast event.

In addition to the uncertainty, Ms Poulos says she’s concerned that some providers are underprepared for the stronger accountability requirements under the new Aged Care Act, and she questions the number of rules providers have to follow.

In the video below she discusses:

  • the uncertainties providers are experiencing
  • accountability concerns
  • the impact of the rules
  • practical tips and advice for providers as they approach 1 November.
