The Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot has officially called for nominations for the 2009 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care.

Next year’s awards are open to a wider range of individuals and organisations than ever before, encompassing a wide range of Commonwealth-funded residential, community and respite aged care services.

“I have been to every state and territory and I have seen world class facilities and met with hundreds of dedicated and hard working staff – and they deserve to be recognised,” said Mrs Elliot.

“Just as importantly, the awards provide the opportunity for the exceptional facilities and people to share their ideas and successes with others.”

“These awards provide us with the opportunity to provide you with recognition and to thank you,” the minister said.

The award categories for organisations are: Innovation in Staff Recruitment and Retention; Excellence in Training and Staff Development; and Innovation in Information Technology.

The award categories for individuals are: Leadership and Achievement; and Achievement in Service Provision in a Regional, Rural or Remote Area.

Nominations will close on 27 February, 2009 and winners will be invited to an award ceremony in Canberra in June 2009.
