The Australian Defence Force and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs are conducting a review into mental health programs and support for defence personnel and veterans.

The review will provide an independent assessment of the effectiveness of exisiting programs.

It will be conducted by Associate Professor David Dunt – the head of the Centre for Health Policy, Programs and Economics at Melbourne University.

The Minister for Defence, Warren Snowdon said the wellbeing of Australia’s service men and women, from enlistment through to discharge and beyond, was a high priority for the government.

“The review will study the mental health care needs of ADF personnel and the
ex-service community and assist us in ensuring the very best care is available.”

Written submissions are being sought from current defence personnel, veterans and interested members of the public.

They must be submitted by 20 September and should be sent to MentalHealth.Review@defence.gov.au
