Transition taskforce awaits detail on education plan
A spokesperson from the Department of Health and Aged Care has said progress on the education and training plan for the transition to the new Aged Care Act should continue as normal during the caretaker period.

Aged Care Transition Taskforce members have asked for further detail on the Department of Health and Aged Care’s education and training plan for the implementation of the new Aged Care Act, the minutes of this month’s meeting show.
That meeting took place on 5 March with minutes published 11 March.
The draft education and training plan supports aged care providers to prepare for the upcoming commencement of the new Act on 1 July and implement the new Support at Home program, said a spokesperson for the department.
The plan prioritises what the aged care sector needs to know prior to 1 July and following the initial implementation of the new Act, they said.
The plan will be finalised through the transition taskforce and training packages will be available to the sector from April to ensure providers are supported to implement the new SaH program, the spokesperson told Australian Ageing Agenda.
The caretaker period of six weeks before the election should not impact this plan.
“During the caretaker period, the business of government continues, and ordinary matters of administration still need to be addressed,” the spokesperson told AAA.
“The department will continue to progress work on education and training where that is appropriate and meets the requirements of the caretaker conventions.”
