Werribee Terrace reaches significant milestone

The agency has formally advised that there is no longer a serious risk to the health and safety of residents at the Melbourne home.

Werribee Terrace Aged Care centre has made significant progress towards regaining compliance after undergoing intense efforts to address shortcomings.

The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency has advised the sanctioned facility in Melbourne’s southwest that the serious risk to residents’ health and safety has been resolved.

“We let our residents, families and community down, for which I am very sorry,” said the home’s CEO, David Gibson.

“We have moved promptly to get us back on track and build our capacity to provide best practice care on an ongoing basis.

“I am proud to say my staff is responding to the challenge to provide the best care possible.”

Since the agency notified Werribee Terrace Aged Care of deficiencies on 8 March, the home has appointed a nurse advisor approved by the Department of Health and Ageing, along with an independent dietician.

The facility has also consulted with experts in wound and pain management and all staff have undergone a one-day training session on critical care issues.

An infection control audit has been conducted at the home and a new nurse call system will be introduced to the home early next month.

“We are working with the department in an open and constructive manner,” he said.

“I also undertake to keep families and the community informed of progress.”

Werribee Terrace Aged Care will continue to be monitored by the department for the next six months.
