Return of the RV survey

Stewart Brown’s retirement village survey is back due to popular demand after a three-year absence.

NSW retirement village operators have the chance to benchmark the capital and marketing performance of their sites but they will have to register soon.

Stewart Brown Business Solutions (SBBS) is preparing to re-launch its Retirement Villages Survey in 2009 after a three year absence due to industry demand.

Aged and Community Services Association NSW & ACT requested a reintroduction of the survey after receiving feedback from its members.

The Director of Stewart Brown Business Solutions, Max Hopkins said the survey would focus on capital, property and marketing aspects, rather than operating performance.

“Retirement villages provide more of an accommodation service than a care service,” he said. “They are driven by the accommodation that is provided and how it is provided.

“We want to capture information such as entry prices, the retention percentages over time the services that are available, the range of accommodation types and the age of facilities.”

If this survey is successful, SBBS will consider expanding it and making it a regular report for the retirement village sector.

“We are quite familiar with doing survey work and if this survey works well, we would make it a national one and do it as an annual survey,” said Mr Hopkins.

“Because it is a new survey, we thought we would test it on the NSW population and once we had learnt from that, we will consider doing it on a broader basis.”

The survey will cover the year ended 30 June, 2009. All registrations and data need to be submitted by Friday, 20 November. The report will be issued by 21 December, 2009.
