VIDEO: Aged care has a quality of life not a quality of care problem, Mike Rungie, the CEO of ACH Group told the ACSA National Conference.

Consumers reported that high quality of care did not necessarily translate into a good quality of life and providers needed to shift their focus to providing services that were “life-changing”, Mr Rungie said.

He told the conference that a key dimension of a quality life was having meaningful roles and he encouraged providers to develop quality of life indicators that were reported to boards as part of a quality review process.

Mr Rungie said ultimately an aged care system built on consumer needs not only opened up broader possibilities but also had the potential for greater national viability.
