Significant retirement

Chief executive of not-for-profit provider Carrington Care is signing off after 20 years in the role and a career spanning five decades.

Raad Richards has announced his retirement after almost 21 years as chief executive of retirement living and aged care service Carrington Care.

Taking to Linkedin, Mr Richards credited his colleagues with help in building the organisation into the company it is today on the outskirst of Sydney’s south-western suburbs.

“I am very proud of our achievements and strong legacy I leave behind me during this incredible journey,” Mr Richards wrote.

“I am hugely grateful for the relationships I have built with our residents, staff and the wider community in the greater Macarthur area. Over the years, like every one else in the sector we were faced with lots of challenges but also we celebrated lots and lots of successes and drove a vision and innovation that shaped the future of Carrington for many decades to come.”

Many took to the social networking platform to congratulate Mr Richards on his achievements.

“Congratulations Raad on an outstanding leadership contribution to Carrington and to the broader aged care sector,” wrote Catholic Health Australia director Steve Teulan. “You deserve to be very proud of what you and your team have achieved.”

Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institution chief executive officer Frank Price also took the time to pen a message to Mr Richards.

“What a great privilege it has been to know you, sit beside you in meetings, spend time at your beautiful Carrington and talk over so many topics over the years with you. I am happy to see that we will continue part of that relationship via ACCPA and look forward to catching up very soon,” he wrote.

“Congrats Raad for all your achievements and thank you for your guidance over the years.”

Mr Richards has accumulated an impressive resume over his career, having served as board chair and non-executive director in addition to chief executive in the health and aged care sector, with a focus on strategic planning, organisational development and performance improvement and financial management.

Positions held have included those in senior executive health service management and aged care sector management roles, company directorships and a variety of representative roles on peak industry organisations, professional colleges and government committees.

In 2019, Mr Richards was honoured for his outstanding commitment to the aged care sector at Leading Age Services Australia’s state awards.

Carrington Care’s executive manager business operations, Mark Tutt, will step into the role as chief executive.

Mr Richards extended his appreciation to those who have been part of his five-decade career.

“I [would] also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my family for their, support, understanding and the countless sacrifices they have made throughout my career,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

“In the next chapter of my life, I will continue my contribution to the aged care sector through my involvement with ACCPA and the various organisations I am involved with as a director and board chair.”
