Stopping the exodus of aged care staff

With workers continuing to leave the sector in droves, there are several solutions providers can employ to retain staff.

Workforce churn has long been a challenge for the aged care sector. According to data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, between July and September 2023 alone,  almost 10,000 nurses and care workers left their residential aged care service.

“Losing 10,000 workers in one quarter is tough, and on track to losing 25 per cent over the year,” Professor Denise Jepsen from Macquarie University tells Australian Ageing Agenda.
