In a bid to support more women in regional New South Wales to become qualified carers for veterans and seniors, RSL LifeCare has been awarded $170,000 in funding for the Empowering Women, Supporting Veterans & Seniors program.

Made possible through the NSW Government’s Return to Work Pathways Program, the initiative will offer 40 aged care traineeships to women in Merimbula, Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Narrandera, Condobolin, Nowra and Wagga Wagga.

Participants will receive formal training toward a nationally recognised qualification, online training, local mentoring, and will partake in paid placements.

The program is designed to guide women back into the workforce and aims to remove common barriers to working, including confidence, connectivity, cost or caregiving responsibilities.

RSL LifeCare CEO Janet Muir said it is more than a jobs program, equipping women with the tools, confidence and qualifications they need to thrive, and ensuring seniors receive the care they need and deserve.

The initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to strengthening communities, supporting women’s career advancement and improving care outcomes for veterans and seniors, she added.

“At RSL LifeCare, we’re committed to building stronger, more resilient communities by creating meaningful employment pathways for women in regional areas,” Ms Muir said.

“This grant enables us to not only open new career pathways for women in regional NSW, but also deliver compassionate, skilled care for the veterans and seniors who depend on us. It’s a win for individuals, families and communities alike.”
