Charitable support service The Benevolent Society has announced the appointment of experienced healthcare leader Kevin Barrow as its next chief executive.

Mr Barrow – who commences in the role on 14 October 2025 – has more than 20 years of leadership experience across the healthcare and not-for-profit sectors.

He has most recently been chief executive officer of the Northern Sydney Primary Health Network organisation Sydney North Health Network since May 2023, where he has led system-wide change through collaboration, community empowerment, and strengthening safety nets for vulnerable people.

Previously, Mr Barrow was chief executive officer of the Butterfly Foundation, in senior executive roles with Philips Australia & New Zealand and Becton Dickinson, and in governance positions across health and medical technology organisations.

He will replace interim chief executive Stefan Duvenhage, who was appointed to the role in March 2025 upon the resignation of Lin Hatfield Dodds after almost four years as chief executive.

Mr Barrow’s appointment follows an extensive national search, said The Benevolent Society, which provides integrated support services to older Australians and carers, along with children, young people and families, and people with disability.

Ken Smith

Board chair Ken Smith said they were delighted to welcome Barrow to the organisation.

“He brings extensive leadership experience and a strong understanding of partnering and connecting in community service delivery. Kevin’s leadership will help consolidate our current services while supporting growth and diversification. His people-focused approach is a natural fit for our organisation’s values and the diverse communities we support.”

Mr Barrow said he was honoured to be joining an organisation with a proud history of delivering person-centred services.

“I look forward to working with the board, executive team, and Benevolent staff to continue building on the great work already underway, and to help shape the next chapter of the organisation’s journey.”

Mr Duvenhage, who has been with the organisation for almost 12 years, will return to his role of executive director of finance, IT and corporate services once Mr Barrow commences.

“I look forward to supporting Kevin to ensure a smooth handover and to help Benevolent continue its momentum in this exciting new chapter,” he said.
