Win a morning tea with Mao’s last dancer

Delegates who register for ACSA’s national conference in the next fortnight will have the chance to share morning tea with the remarkable Li Cunxin.

Everyone who registers for next month’s Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) national conference will go in the draw to win a morning tea with keynote speaker, Li Cunxin.

Mr Cunxin is the acclaimed author of Mao’s Last Dancer, which tells the inspiring story of his journey from poverty in rural China to his defection to the United States where he went on to become one of the world’s best ballet dancers.

A key to Mr Cunxin’s success has been his refusal to let negative influences overwhelm him.

“I always think in any given situation that, if one is determined, resourceful and committed, solutions can always be found,” Mr Cunxin said.

“It may be that you have to work extra hard to achieve the same outcomes in difficult situations but I believe that human beings have an innate ability of finding ways to improve their situation, to conquer and to overcome impossibilities.”

This year’s ACSA conference has the theme, ‘Get up, stand up!’ and the organisers have worked to deliver a program that will engage and challenge attendees.

It will include insights from a number of public identities who have thrived in the face of adversity.

Conference chair and the CEO of Alzheimer’s Australia WA, Francis Schaper delegates should be prepared to get involved.

“We hold the view that aged care in Australia has much to be proud of,” he said.

“We have worked, sometimes against great odds, to develop very good systems of care for older people.

“We are doing a worthwhile job and we have a right to stand up and be proud. That’s the message we hope to portray through the conference!

“We need to challenge those people who put the industry under the microscope to look deeper and see the great work that is being done.”
