Aussies clean up at Asia-Pacific awards
Multiple Australian aged care providers and the industry peak body’s chief are among the winners of international innovation awards.
The team at aged care and retirement living provider Ryman Healthcare has walked away with a handful of prizes from the Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards in Singapore among many successful entrants from down under Australia including the head of the sector’s peak body.
The international awards took place during the World Ageing Festival – which attracted 5,000 people to foster global knowledge, collaboration and partnerships.
Ryman Healthcare – which offers a continuum of care model – picked up the operator of the year award in both the ageing in place and assisted living categories. It also won the interior design of the year award for Deborah Cheetham Retirement Village in Ocean Grove, Victoria, and its myRyman Resident App was named the winner of the social engagement innovation of the year.
Success at the awards is fantastic recognition of the expertise and passion of teams right across the business, said Ryman Healthcare Australia chief executive officer Cameron Holland. “As a business we’re constantly looking for innovative solutions to enhance freedom, connection, and wellbeing for people as we grow older.”
Mr Holland pointed out that innovation came in many different forms. “The best innovations, though, are always simple, intuitive, and have people at their heart, which why it’s so satisfying to see our continuum of care model once again recognised as a world-leading approach.”
Fellow provider Bolton Clarke also won multiple awards including operator of the year in the active ageing category and innovation of the year for employee wellbeing for its WeCare program.
Aged & Community Care Providers Association chief executive officer Tom Symondson was one of 10 recipients of the Global Ageing Influencer Award.
He said his vision to enhance the wellbeing of older Australians through a high performing, trusted and sustainable aged care sector was shared by providers across the continuum of aged care.
“Australia’s population is ageing, and our aged care sector must grow and adapt to meet that challenge. To achieve this, we must keep people at the heart of aged care.”
My Symondson was also one of the judges charged with choosing winners from more than 180 submissions from 19 countries. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to see some fantastic innovations from across the world,” he said.

- Rockpool Pelican Waters by Rockpool Pelican Waters won design of the year – care suite
- McLean Care and iAgeHealth’s harnessing technology to solve global aged care health workforce challenges won innovation of the year – smart care technology
- Kalyra’s intergenerational program won innovation of the year – intergenerational social engagement
- Australian Nursing Home Foundation’s senior boxing and technology enhanced exercising program won innovation of the year – rehabilitation program
