Australia’s favourite home

A complex of serviced apartments in Canberra has been nominated as Australia’s best.

Goodwin’s award-winning Ainslie apartments in Canberra have been nominated as Australia’s bets apartment or townhouse complex of the year.

The Housing Industry Association has joined up with realestate.com.au to launch Australia’s Favourite Home – an interactive competition aimed at promoting quality and sustainable design.

“Having our complex nominated alongside some of the best regular apartment buildings in Australia is a great honour, and a great indication that our complex is offering something pretty special for the region’s seniors,” said Goodwin CEO, Bruce McKenzie.

Goodwin’s 68 apartments at Ainslie are four storeys high and are spread across three blocks, giving residents views of the nearby Mount Ainslie and Canberra’s city centre.

The two and three bedroom apartments were designed to meet the needs of older people with limited mobility while maintaining a sense of style.

Plush carpets and slate tiling are used to minimise falls risks and grab rails have been discretely incorporated into the bathroom walls.

“Just because older people need a bit of extra help, doesn’t mean they’re ready to give up on living in a nice home within a friendly, active community,” Mr McKenzie said.

“So we set out to build stylish apartments which anyone would want to live in regardless of their age, but with the kind of special features that will help older people live independently well into their senior years.

“We know that we’ve succeeded because we’ve had kids and even grandkids of our residents tell us that these are apartments they’d like to live in.”

Voting in the competition is open until 7 June. Click here for more information.
