Catholic Healthcare has completed the two-year expansion of its Charles O’Neill aged care home in Mayfield West, New South Wales, to double the number of places to 80.

The Charles O’Neill home near Newcastle was built in 2001 as a 40-bed residential aged care facility.

As previously reported, the first stage of the refurbishment, which completed last year, added 15 beds.

The provider has just completed the second stage, which included an additional 25 residential places.

The facility also features a range of shared amenities for residents, families, and the community, including a prayer room, hair salon, courtyards, gardens and activity and lifestyle spaces.

Catholic Healthcare is committed and focused on creating much needed additional services around Newcastle for the growing aged population, said Andrew Kinkade, general manager of residential care.

“Construction has involved a significant amount of work over the past two years and we are excited that our development is now complete,” Mr Kinkade said.

“We look forward to welcoming residents to their new home.”
