  • Elizabeth Broderick will deliver her final speech as the Commissioner for Age Discrimination on Tuesday 21 June, at Sydney Institute 41 Phillip Street, Sydney. • The 2011 HammondCare Conference is just around the corner, happening from Thursday 23 to Friday 24 June at the Australian Technology Park, Sydney Locomotive Street, Eveleigh (NSW). Senior Australian of the Year, Maggie Beer, will be one of the highlights, speaking about the role of food in the lives of older people. She will then join delegates for a Forbidden Fruits cocktail reception. For more details, click here.

  • The Vinnies CEO Sleepout will take place across Australia’s capital cities on Thursday 16 June. CEO of SummitCare, Cynthia Payne, will join 200 other business and community leaders who will camp out at Sydney’s Luna Park to raise awareness and funds for the charity’s homeless services. To donate, visit www.ceosleepout.org.au

  • CEO of the Humanities Foundation (Netherlands), Dr Hans Becker, will be in town tomorrow, Friday 10 June, to lead a one-off Ageing Asia Leadership Workshop at the Sydney Masonic Centre. • June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. In recognition of the cause, the Aged Rights Advocacy Service will run a conference on the same day at the Adelaide Convention Centre, themed There’s no excuse for abuse – the legal links’. Click here to register.

  • Alzheimer’s Australia has been chosen to take part in the Commonwealth Bank’s new Community Seeds Facebook campaign, which will raise money for Alzheimer’s research. To be involved, all you have to do is to go on Facebook, click on Community Seeds (www.facebook.com/commonwealthbank) and vote for Alzheimer’s Australia. By doing this, the organisation will receive a donation from Commonwealth Bank’s community program. One vote = $1 and you can only vote once. To find out more, click here.

  • Applications are now open for the Positive Living in Aged Care Awards. The closing date, Thursday 30 June, is not far off so apply now before it is too late. The awards project aims to recognise residential aged care providers in NSW who are implementing strategies to promote a positive approach to the prevention and management of mental health conditions. All Commonwealth funded residential aged care facilities (RACFs) in NSW are encouraged to apply. For more information, click here.

Remember to get organised well in advance for overseas events, like the Washington DC IAHSA conference, happening this October. To check out the dates and details, click here.
