- The NSW Falls Prevention Network Forum will be held tomorrow, Friday 27 May at the Wesley Conference Centre, 220 Pitt Street Sydney, from 9am to 4pm (registration from 8.15am). The forum will feature a special focus on translating research into practice. For more details click here.
- Hurry and get your application in for the Positive Living in Aged Care Awards. The closing date for applications, Thursday 30 June, is not far off so apply now before it is too late.The awards project aims to recognise residential aged care providers in NSW who are implementing strategies to promote a positive approach to the prevention and management of mental health conditions. All Commonwealth funded residential aged care facilities (RACFs) in NSW are encouraged to apply. For more information, click here.
- The ACCV Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner will be held on Thursday 9 June at the The Sebel Albert Park Melbourne, Grand Ballroom from 6.30pm (event officially starts at 7pm). The event host will be radio announcer for 3AW, David Mann. Members are encouraged to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Victoria’s aged care industry at this annual event. - The Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Thailand has invited interested parties to submit an abstract for presentation at Thailand Dementia 2011 and 14th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of Alzheimer’s Disease International. Submissions close on 30 August. Email mcpc.thailand@hotmail.com
- National Palliative Care Week 2011 will run until Saturday 28 May. The theme may be confronting, ‘Chat about dying’, but the point of the week is to encourage conversations about death so that society can eventually realise quality end of life care for all Australians. Remember to get organised well in advance for overseas events, like the upcoming Thailand Dementia 2011 and 14th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of Alzheimer’s Disease International (noted above), on 8- 11 November. The conference will be held at the Swissotel Le Concorde Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.
This year’s theme ‘Dementia. It’s time for action”- will focus on a broader view of the disease and its social, health and economic impact. Speakers will include professor of Ageing and Mental Health and the University of NSW, Henry Brodaty; the executive director of Alzheimer’s Disease International, Marc Wortmann, and more.
The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) will hold its next global conference in Prague, Czech Republic, from 28 May to 1 June, 2012. Organisers aim to provide a forum where attendees can learn, discuss and influence age-related policy and practice around the world. Click here for more information.
